A safari in East Africa is one of the most adventurous trip you can take in Africa. From big five safaris in the Masai Mara plains and Serengeti National Park to gorilla safaris into the jungles of Bwindi Forest and Mgahinga in Uganda or Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, a safari in East Africa is a very rewarding experience!

The region known as East Africa is made up of 5 countries i.e Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya and Tanzania and what is amazing is that each of these countries hosts unique treasures that you can explore in East Africa.

A Safari in Kenya

Kenya is the most popular destination in East Africa attracting tourists from all over the world interesting in big five safaris. The top adventure destinations in Kenya include the Masai Mara National Par, Amboseli National Park and the Mombasa beaches. There are over 50 national parks and game reserves in Kenya and each park hosts unique wildlife. Though the country is most popular for game viewing there are several other adventure activities that can be taken in Kenya and these include golf and medical tourism,  beach holidays, mountain trekking, bird watching etc.

A Safari in Tanzania

To a traveler interested in large numbers of wildlife in safari parks, Tanzania is the best destination to take a wildlife safari in East Africa. Though the country has a lot of places visit,  Serengeti national park and Mountain Kilimanjaro are the most popular baits pulling tourists to the country. In addition domestic tourism in Tanzania kicked off with cultural tours supported by tour operators. The annual Kilimanjaro marathon as a sporting event has continued to attract runners from over 50 countries in addition to Scuba Diving and other water sports and with several world class conference facilities tourism is booming.

A Safari in Rwanda

A safari in Rwanda has become one of the top adventures in Rwanda. This is due to that Rwanda has diversified its tourism activities by introducing hiking along the 227 Kilometres Congo Nile Trail, and Canopy tourism in Nyungwe National Park, and this is the first of its kind in East Africa. The country also has museums in addition to the mountain gorillas, along with the popular and interesting gorilla naming ceremony, locally referred to as Kwita Izina, which attracts many domestic and foreign tourists. The forthcoming development of more global five-star hotel chains, including Marriot Hotel as well as Sheraton and Hilton hotels in Kigali, has promised to promote conference tourism as well as tourism in general.

A Safari in Burundi

Despite the past conflicts in Burundi, the coutry has greatly recovered and is now safe for tourism. The country has several attractions including the Kibira National Park home to various primates, the Source of the Nile and the Tanganyika beaches, a good place for leisure seekers who like troical beaches!

With the construction of a four-star Doubletree Hotel by the Hilton Group in Bujumbura, followed by other large American and European hotel brands, there is no worry about where to stay while touring Burundi. The country also offers many sporting activities such as water skiing, sailing, fishing, and swimming on Lake Tanganyika.

A Safari in Uganda

Dubbed as the Pearl of Africa, Uganda is one of the best spots for primates viewing and ecotours in Africa. With over 10 national parks, where travelers go game viewing in natural non crowded parks, Uganda is fast becoming a favorite to travelers interested in nature based tourism and wildlife safaris.  The country is most popular for gorilla safaris into Bwindi Forest and Mgahinga National Park, though there are several  other adventures that include game viewing, bird watching, cultural tourism etc. The country has realised a big investment into the tourism sector by private investors who have built luxurious hotels, privately owned museums, safari lodges etc. This country has also become a hub for adventure sports and white water rafting.
